Choosing Laminate
Laminate floors are available in wood-looks as well as tile and stone look a likes. Laminate floors always float; meaning, they are not glued to the subfloor. The advantage of this means of installation allows the laminate to be installed over existing vinyl or even tile floors. This enables the consumer to avoid asbestos abatement or the cost of removal of even tile floors. Laminate floors never fade of stain nor do they have a dye lot. This allows for board replacement years down the road; without a difference in color relative to the existing floors. Laminates are not glued on the tongue & groove allowing the entire floor to be disassembled and re-installed. Laminates; like hardwood may be smooth finish or distressed or hand-scraped. In general they are very cost effective relative to hardwood or tile floors.
